An eventful day which in the end produced a cracking session. Met up first with Rod at Hove 12.20pm but it was looking shittyly marginal and more onshore than expected so we drove on to Shoreham. The wind had picked up here by the time we arrived so out on the 5.8 which very soon became much too big. But only for about 20 minutes - because suddenly the wind died completely and veered offshore after a rain shower had passed over. Fortunately I was close to the beach so made it back in ok but a couple of people were way out back and struggling severely. After much observation and consultation with the fellow Shorehamers I called the coastguard and the inshore lifeboat was sent out.

Significance of this for most of us was that instead of packing up and going home due to the crap conditions, we all hung around watching the rescue and checking all sailors had made it in alright.. Thank feck we did because about one hour later back came the wind!!! Out again on the 5.8 but now it was even windier! So changed down to the 5.2.

And there followed a cracking 2 hours of perfectly powered up sailing. Just the right sort of constant wind strength where you can go for stuff with full confidence due to having exactly the correct amount of power and knowing if you c*ck up you'll be back on the board and planing within a few seconds. There were a few nice ramps for jumping and I wiggled my bum a couple of times at one wave that popped up nicely for me, but it was mostly a flat-ish or b&j type session so lots of duck gybes, crap body drags and one even crapper 360 attempt. Mmmmm windsurfing...sessions like these feel like a fairground ride that just doesn't end until you decide it should. :)

All the usual suspects were out on the water and the resultant sociability of the day made it even better. I feel tempted to award it 5 stars but that would be unfair on the Tiree/Daymer days so 4.5 it is.
